The Picture

By Sharon Dunn

I had my picture taken. It was a close up. A bust shot and quite a surprise. No time to pose, fix up or even sit up straight.

You know how you want to look your best. Maybe a special smile. Some make up to cover the unsightly. After all people judge you by what they see, right?

We all try extra hard to look great for that driver’s license picture because it’s out there often for who knows whom to see.

The shot I’ve referred to brought me to tears instantly when I saw it. What an awful view. Not my best side for sure. I surly don’t look that bad! Ouch!

What’s that? My brain? Down lower, is that my heart? Technology today! Looks more like an x-ray than a photograph.

Matthew 5:29 says , “does He who forms the eye not see“?

II Chronicles 16:9 “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”

Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere.”

Well, I believe it. He sure took a look at me.

Then He reminded me. Yes, I’d written in my journal, in one of those more spiritual moments, you know?!?! Here, let me show it to you.

Sometime in 2006: “I just keep getting a deeper look at the real me. The telescopic lenses relentlessly moves closer and closer, adjusting to sharpen it’s focus on my soul.

Here I lie, naked, exposed, flaunted, mercilessly guilty. This exposure mirrors me, shocks me and reveals my frailty and pronounces my depraved, sinful condition.

Lord, please, hold the light ever on me, proving undeniably that I am forever a hopeless sinner and only by your love and grace shall I be saved”!

Lesson learned! Be careful what you pray for. Or should I say, Stay prepared! Some reminders from the photographer will help me.

Psalm 11:4 “The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them.”

Psalm 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Psalm 17:2 “May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.”

The best reminder to keep me looking my very best at all times is in Revelation 16:15 “Behold I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

Had your picture taken lately? Actually the camera if always on. So stay pretty, God is watching, in love and mercy!
