Faith Like A Mustard Seed

By Myrna Boyer

Subject: God understands and offers hope in our circumstances

Wouldn’t it be nice to have faith and trust like we did as a child? Unaware of all the pain and suffering that life places into some person’s life. To go back to a time when all we had to worry about was what games were we going to play today and who would we choose to play them with.

When I was a little girl, around the age of seven, I had a reoccurring dream. In this dream, I would leave the safety of my home and go to a corner candy store. This candy store was almost three blocks from my home. I always felt that they had the best candy. I could get many different kinds of candy for the low price of two and three for a penny (boy am I old). I would go and get 25 cents worth of candy and be set for what I thought would be for life. I was always a shy, timid child growing up because I was a victim of abuse. On my way home from this candy store, in my dream, a man dressed in a pair of faded jeans, red white and a blue flannel shirt opened half way down to his waist, a khaki colored jacket and dirty, gray tennis shoes that had seen better days began to follow me. I never thought much of it so I would just walk at leisure. As I rounded the first corner on my quest home, I noticed that he was still behind me. I began to become alarmed and walk a little faster. The faster I went, the faster he would walk. As I rounded the second corner, I was in a full run, aware that he was lessening the much needed space between us. I made it to my house with no time to hide. I locked the door behind me and kneeled down in between a chair and our window. I heard the splintering effect that only a broken window makes looking up in time to see a shot gun come in our front window seeking out his prey. My heart racing with fear, I awake to find two angels walking back and forth outside my bedroom door. I had this dream for seven years but in all those years my heavenly Father never failed to be there upon my waking. My Father knows all my fears and He is with me, be it a simple dream or a disappointment in life. Seeing those angels always filled me with a sense of peace so that I may go to sleep again and sleep peacefully this time.

I know that my Father knew that this is what I needed to feel secure in Him. If He would do this for me an imperfect sinner, what more would He do when I am walking in His light. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could live life as if we never had any disappointment, hurt, loss, victimization, and loss of trust? My friend, that is what our Heavenly Father can do for us. He can erase that hurt and replace it with joy if we will choose to allow Him. Every day we choose what we are going to believe, whom we are going to follow, how we are going to feel. We can choose to have that happiness that surpasses all understanding. Psalms 32:8-10 says: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him." Jeremiah 39: 17-18 says: "but I will rescue you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be handed over to those you fear. I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life; because you trust in me, declares the Lord."

We must walk as if we have never been hurt and trust in him. He will heal us and restore our souls.
