God's Customer Service

By Joanne Lowe

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”
- Proverbs 15: 1 – 4 King James Version

Did you know that God has a customer service department? Every person who claims to be saved, born again through the precious atoning and redeeming blood of our Savior is His customer service representative. When a representative in a store’s customer service department is rude to us, it upsets us and sometimes we don’t go back to the store. The same is true when a Christian is rude to someone. Instead of drawing the person to Jesus, our harsh words turn the person away from Jesus.

When we are employed by a store, we have to follow the rules that our employer gives us. If we don’t follow the employer’s rules, we will probably be fired and lose our job. Jesus has given us rules to go by when we talk to others. We are to speak kind and uplifting words to the people we are trying to win to Jesus rather than saying harsh and degrading words to the people we are witnessing to.

An employer at the job can fire us and tell us to get out and never come back. However, Jesus can’t tell us to get out and never come back. Once we are saved, we are His for all eternity. He can’t kick us out but we sure do hurt Him when we are unkind and say harsh criticizing words to people. He loves those people just as much as He loves us. He died for everyone, not just for us.

If we are trying to win our families to Jesus, we will never win them if we constantly argue with them and put them down. Yes, there are many times when they say things to us that hurt us and break our hearts. However, we need to remember that there are probably many times that we say things to them that hurt them and break their hearts.

Many years ago when I lived in Texas, I heard someone make this statement “What I do in my own home behind closed doors is my own business.” For a long time I thought that this person was correct. However a few years ago, God convicted my heart through this verse “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” It does matter to God what happens in our homes. We may be able to hide what we say and do in our homes from our neighbors but we can’t hide from Jesus.

What is going on in your home when the door is closed? Are you saying harsh and criticizing words to your spouse and children or are you saying kind and gentle words to them? Do you laugh with your family? Does your family see Jesus in your smile and do they hear Him in the words you say to them? What kind of customer service representative for Jesus are you being to your family?
