Kitten Girls, Kitten Chow and the Bible

Recently I was doing a very mundane task when I absolutely had an epiphany. My kitten girls are on a self-feeder and I noticed it was almost empty. I got out the new bag of kitten chow and the girls went crazy! They jumped up on the breakfast bar, trying to stand on the bag, desperate to get to the new food – they even kept pushing my hands out of the way in their determination to get into the new bag. I had never seen them act like this so I was taken off guard. I did eventually get the bag open (with their help), fill the feeder and get the kitten girls fed.
As I was putting the bag away that’s when it hit me. Have I ever, in my entire life, been that way with my Bible? Have I ever been that desperate to get to God’s Word and feed myself spiritually? Have I ever been that determined to block out everything else in my way so I could get the Food I need to live out my faith?
Such a mundane task and yet such a profound lesson. I am so grateful when God shows me things like this in the everyday routine of life. He knows this is where I live and this is where He speaks to me. And now, He has given me an even greater love for His Word and a desire to pursue His truth the way my kitten girls went after their food. And, unlike their feeder that has to be replenished periodically, His Word never runs dry – I will never be able to get to the bottom of His Word - it is my eternal spiritual self-feeder.
